Curtiss, Emily (4th/5th)
Hello Families,
I am thrilled that your children will be in my class this year! We are going to learn so many new and exciting things together. It will be a year full of exploring, questioning, growing, and learning.
I believe it is important to work together as a classroom family. We will be spending a lot of time together, so it is essential to treat each other with respect, compassion, and kindness. We will be learning social skills with Second Step. We know that each of us has a different brain, which means we think and learn diffierently.
With the structure of the class - being a split of fourth and fifth graders - I am sure many questions will come up. I anticipate challenging all learners, holding high expectations, and also working to create a culture of cooperation. Fourth graders will get some intensive instruction to ensure that fourth grade standards are covered fully, and fifth graders will get the chance to be leaders and also practice their independence during small group time. There are many fifth grade specific opportunities, and they will be fully involved in all of them throughout the year.
Finally, I appreciate your trust and support in letting me take a hand in your child’s education. I sincerely care about your child and I am fully committed to helping them make their Northwood experience positive and successful!
