Mercer Island, WA, March 5, 2026 - Northwood second graders in Elizabeth Loiselle’s class partnered with high school students from KMIH 88.9 The Bridge for an unforgettable project connected to their Government at Work reading unit.

After learning what makes a powerful Public Service Announcement (PSA) and how to read with expression, students wrote and recorded their own PSAs to be shared on the air!

“It has been meaningful for second graders to collaborate with partners and high school radio students to write, edit, rehearse and record Public Service Announcements,” said Loiselle.

High school radio students then edited the recordings, adding music and sound effects to bring them to life. The experience wrapped up with the second graders taking a field trip to the radio station at MIHS, where high school students gave them a VIP tour, exploring soundproof booths and explaining how a real radio station works.

“The student created PSAs are intended to help youth in our community make safe and healthy choices that support their wellbeing. We are thrilled for the partnership with Mrs. Millsap, Ms. Woods and KMIH and we can’t wait to share them with the community,” continued Loiselle.

Safe to say... they’re already planning to join radio classes when they get to MIHS!

The Northwood PSA’s are currently being broadcast on KMIH 88.9 The Bridge and can be heard by downloading the KMIH app, streaming from KMIH.org, or tuning in at 88.9 FM.
