Skeletons and Skulls Presentation Visits Northwood 5th Grade Classes Courtesy of MISF Grant
Mercer Island, WA, April 3, 2024 – Marisa LeVeque and Victoria Vermiglio’s fifth grade classes at Northwood Elementary received a special presentation called Skeletons and Skulls from Nature Vision on Friday, March 29 courtesy of a grant from the Mercer Island Schools Foundation (MISF).
Nature Vision programs offer hands-on science experiences and applications of learning about living things and ecosystems from the Pacific Northwest. These programs align with the elementary Teachers’ Curriculum Institute’s (TCI), the curriculum that MISD elementary school use, science unit on living things and ecosystems.
“It was so great to have the Skeletons and Skulls presentation provided to our fifth graders by a Foundation grant,” said LeVeque. “Katelyn Cowles from Nature Vision brought a variety of skeletons and skulls for students to examine and determine what animal it belongs to through critical thinking. This experience enriched student learning because the program provides access to materials, such as animal skulls, that we do not have.”
“The hands-on experience connected our fifth graders to our environment while also making scientific content accessible and meaningful," said Vermiglio. “The students had so many questions for our presenter and were really engaged in examining the skulls and skeletons”.
